Why Is The Philips Hue Lightstrip So Wide?

The indoor light strip has 6 pins and 6 tiny wires running down it, this is then wrapped in a 2mm silicon casing to protect it, while the light strip only has an IP20 rating, the casing is really more to act as a robust protector than against the weather.

The outdoor light strip is designed for all weathers and outdoor use so it has an IP67 rating and the casing is designed to withstand water.
